Israeli/Palestinian Delegation Visits Northern Ireland
Intercomm and its B-JCSP partner organisation INCORE ( University of Ulster ) organised for an Israeli/Palestinian delegation to visit Northern Ireland 30 March – 5 April 2006 . During their time in Belfast/Northern Ireland, the delegates were given introductions to Intercomm, INCORE and the Belfast-Jerusalem Civil Society Partnership as well as the Northern Ireland conflict/peace process. An important part of the programme was to reflect on, compare and draw conclusions from the situations in Northern Ireland and Israel/Palestine. In addition, the delegates spent extensive time with the Belfast Local Strategy Partnership where they were given a presentation of the BLSP and the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and the delegates were also given the opportunity to meet with local politicians and given a tour of the Antrim coast. Middle East Study TourINCORE and Intercomm are planning a high profile study tour to the Middle East at the end of 2006, involving key individuals from the Northern Ireland community/voluntary sector, trade unions, the social economy and possibly senior civil servants. The aim of the study tour is to share both success and failure regarding conflict resolutions in Northern Ireland and Israel/Palestine and hence further the aims of the B-JCSP. The B-JCSP was developed at the end of 2004 with the aim to share, develop, research and disseminate skills and practices to help build communities, strengthen civil society and transform conflict in Jerusalem and Belfast/Northern Ireland . Partner organisations: Intercomm, INCORE, Ir Amim and Panorama . |
