Intercomm Interns

David Rose

Cdt David Rose is a student at the US Military Academy at Westpoint and has a background in International Relations, previously studying areas of ethnic conflict and the politics surrounding them. He took part in the first Intercomm/Westpoint Internship Program during the summer 2006. The aim of the Internship Program is to give the US Cadets a better understanding of what impact conflict has on a society such as Northern Ireland and included work across all sectors and with many individuals from civil and civic society. David made the following comments on the Internship:

"I had the opportunity to work at Intercomm for three weeks over the past summer. During this time I was encouraged to get out and interact with the surrounding community, so that I could learn first hand from the people of the area how they live and how the conflict affected the community. It was a very informative experience, and thanks to the relaxed atmosphere it was a good time as well."

Caroline Kelly

Caroline Kelly is a senior at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, and is majoring in Theology and Political Science, with a minor in Spanish. At home she has been involved with campaign work such as the election campaigns of Attorney General Mike Fisher, 2002, and President George W. Bush, 2004. During her Intercomm internship, Caroline worked closely with Sean Regan on the internship program, and with Charlie O’Connor on the GDLN/World Bank Video Conference project. Her time at Intercomm has inspired her to go to graduate school next year to study international relations and conflict resolution.

Jonathan Townes

This summer, Jonathan, a student at Syracuse University; completed his second Intercomm Summer Internship working with the Intercomm Enterprises organization rebuilding derelict homes in North Belfast neighborhoods that are sorely in need of housing and economic rejuvenation. This experience coupled with his prior 2003 internship with us has given Jonathan significant exposure to a number of strategic and tactical aspects of supporting community-based civil society, social justice and conflict resolution initiatives. He looks forward to continuing his work at Intercomm.
