Intercomm’s Director Liam Maskey has been invited to serve as round table co-chair at the U.S. Military Academy’s Student Conference on United States Affairs, held at West Point (New York) on November 13-16. This 57th annual SCUSA brings together some 200 undergraduates from over 20 countries to discuss international issues as well as formulate proposals for American foreign policy. The theme of this year’s SCUSA is “US Responsibility and the Global Community: Interests, Opportunities, and Ethics”. The main focus point of the conference is to examine how the United States can work with the global community to secure vital and mutual interests and the students will hence be required to discuss regional, state-centred and transnational issues that will affect international affairs and U.S. foreign policy in the years to come. The three-day conference consists of two plenary sessions as well as five round table discussions. In addition to a number of regionally focussed round tables, this years SCUSA also offers round tables on issues such as ‘Homeland Security’, ‘Africa in Crisis’, ‘The U.S. Role in Democratization’, ‘Global Social Concerns’, ‘Terrorism and Insurgency’ as well as ‘Inter and Non-Governmental Organizations’, the latter of which Intercomm’s Director will co-chair.
